ATLANTA – SOVEREIGN, which will welcome residents in the summer of 2008, is more than halfway complete. Construction is well-underway on the upper stories that will incorporate the luxury home portion of the 50 story building crowning Peachtree in the heart of Buckhead. In addition, new home owners are selecting finishes to personalize their residence and insure their preferences.
In celebration of passing the halfway milestone, SOVEREIGN is making an artful statement by draping the building in an image of Todd Murphy’s famous ‘dress’ painting. Murphy, the highly acclaimed contemporary artist, is the curator for SOVEREIGN and commissioned to create four custom pieces of art that will uniquely complement SOVEREIGN’S sweeping curves, fluid architecture and ability to play on light.
In addition to installing his own pieces, Mr. Murphy is selecting all of the art for the building’s public office and residential spaces, as well as cataloging the project’s monumental construction.
“SOVEREIGN is more than a new building on Atlanta’s skyline, it is a reflection of the growth and maturity of our city,” said Reid Freeman, president, Regent Partners, LLC. “As a local Atlanta company we were very cognizant of our civic responsibility to make the architecture of this project outstanding. We understand that a building of this size and scope will have a tremendous and permanent impact on the city’s skyline and streetscape, and we feel compelled to bring together the best of Atlanta’s art and architectural communities. First we challenged the architects, Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart and Associates of Atlanta, to create a building that is as kinetic as our city, and now we are reaching out to Todd to help us complete this visual splendor with his unique view of art and life, and how they come together,” explained Freeman.
